About Me

When I was young, my dad brought home an old black typewriter for me.  I loved that typewriter.  I would sit and type stories and poems, then place the pages into binders, and spend an entire week or so creating just the right cover for them. 

 I didn't have a name for what I was doing then.  I only knew that I loved taking something that lived in my imagination and turning it into something special in a book.  

 Many years later, I found that girl again.  I've always really loved writing things down.  I love the feel of different types of paper and the possibilities waiting inside a blank journal.   One of my favorite Journals that I have created is the Mini Junk Journal, I can play in it all day.  Check out the product page and watch the video of me creating.  

Today, that lifelong love of paper, lead to the creation of Tjayebirds Handmade.

 I especially love creating journals with a story and a purpose behind them.  Sometimes I begin with a color or an image.  Other times, I begin with a feeling.  Then slowly, page by page, the journal tells me what it wants to become.  I create journals and stationery that are meant to be more than beautiful things sitting on a desk.  I want them to be used. 

 I'm still learning, still dreaming, still creating and discovering what's possible.  I believe I simply found my way back to the girl with the old black typewriter.
